Dr. Ajian 2001

This is Dr. Ajian fishing on the Potomac with us in August 2001. Ajian is a Postdoctoral Scientist working in our lab at the National Institutes of Health trying to find a way to fight diabetes. He is straight from China and this was his first fishing trip. Ajians first carp after driving all the way to the mountains of Maryland from the city, enduring a long boat ride sitting next to the chum buckets. Since its his first carp its also his first PB.

Ajian finally sets the hook into his first ever BFC, it has taken off and is heading for WV!

This is Ajians wife, Dr. Xiang, she is also a Postdoctoral Scientist working for the National Cancer Institute trying to find a way to fight cancer. This is also her first fishing trip and she jumped right in netting carp for everyone and never lost one. Here she is waiting on Ajian to get his first real BFC into the net.

Xiang patiently waits for Ajians BFC to tire and come to the net, she didnt need any instructions but we had to keep showing Ajian how not to fall into the river evertime the bite alarm screamed!

Finally, after all the team work of these newcomers to carp fishing, a real 20 pounder is safe on the bank to be released after pictures. This trip was a no frills adventure. I suppied the chum and Ajian and his wife suplied the lunch, a full Chinese spread with duck, wontons, dumplings and buns. Next time they go fishing with us we will move the chum buckets into the back just to be nice to friends that stuffed us with great food!
